Steering cable

I have just completed a restoration on a 1994 Aquatron C/C with a merc 3.0. The problem I'm having is running the steering cable and mounting to the side board. When I picked up the boat the steering cable was already installed it was just laying on deck but it was installed just not mounting to the side board, because there was no side board. Now the question I have, does anyone know if the cable is mounted in the middle or mounted up high? Now the cable might not be the correct one because when I try to keep a smooth bend it seems like I have extra cable. If someone has idea of the correct way to mount I would love to know any good advice is appracated. Thanks.

hi acuatron...

this is very common....

one of the things about a new cable is that they come in different sizes....but the jump is 2 feet.....so if your boat was measured at 16 feet one inch for a cable....you get an 18 foot cable.
the extra is usually "lost" evenly between the front and the back.
you could leave 6 inch dips in the cable from tie to tie....this will take up an entire foot per dip.

Thanks for the help I wil work on the pictures. The advice you did give was very helpful in that the cable can have a few drip loops it dosent need to be like a guitar string. The drip loops was a concern because I thought it needed to be as straight as possible to work correctly. Ther is just one question that I do have and yes I understand about picture and I will take some but do I run the cable up high on the side boaed or down low.

Ayuh,... Usually, higher is better, but it depends on yer application....
