I am wanting to buy a new steering cable due to hard response. If I where to buy this online, say from this site, how would I know which one to purchase? I have a 1989 Evinrude 90hp. A Bumblebee bassboat 1989. Changing it is no problem, making sure I get the right one is the problem.

Re: Steering Cable

If your cable is abit tight you might wanna check out this thread.

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=17;t=015695

DD214 sounds like he had a good idea. I didn't try it. I Just sucked it up and spent the 90 bucks. Mine was 100% froze.

Anyways if a new cable it is. Take the old one out and look at it closely , there should be the brand and part # stamped into it. If not take it to your local shop. I'm sure they could help you find what the one you need.

Part number is stamped on the cable at both ends part number includes lenght in inches... Anybody that sells them can cross refrence from different brands... TeleFlex makes Exallent replacement cables that are resonabley priced... Check with RickRacer in FL 407-343-4733... He sells'm cheaper then anybody I know...
http://www.rickracers.com
