steering conversion on a 58 Johnson?

I have a 1971 16 foot Richline with a 1958 Johnson Super Seahorse 35hp motor. I'm putting fishing decks in and basically turning it into what I hope will be a nice bass boat. The boat had cable and pulley steering and I'd like to change it over to single cable steering. I have a console out of a later model bass boat that I intend to use, and it already has a teleflex helm in it. I've seen transom mount tubes and I guess that's what I'll need. What parts will I need that will mount on the motor to complete the change? ... or is it even possible on this old motor?
Thanks
Tom

Teleflex has a little kit to attach their 'Transom Support Mount' system to older Johnny/Rudes. Have a look here at SA27198P. It attaches to the centre of the 'handle' on the outboard.

Thanks Paul ... you seem to be helping me a lot. So this setup doesn't need a steering rod attached to the motor?
Tom

No need to answer. I see in the picture that it doesn't need a steering rod. Once again you solved my problem. I owe you big time.
Thanks
Tom
