I'm about to start refurbishing this old '59 ??? alum Mohawk. '62 Evinrude 28hp with good controlls. The old cable steering is missing and the steering wheel is poor. I have the complete rack & pinion setup from an '85 Starcraft. Is there any reason that steering setup won't work on the Mohawk or just to much trouble to do? Cable may be 8 / 10 inches longer than needed. P8300343_zps0f6cd0c0.jpg?1433199075620.jpeg

Oops, I missed some critical info. The donor steering is from a 140 alpha1 I/O.

You could probably modify either, just takes a bit of siphering, if ya know what I mean. The I/O will have a different setup the being used for an outboard. It will not be a straight swap but maybe with enough thinking it could work. An I/O has a lot more torque then your outboard

Aren't manual steering cables at the motor the same for IO and OB?

One thing you will need is
