Hello, i have a 1996 Johnson 115 hp motor on a 1996 Cajun 1850 and I wanted to know if anyone knows where I can get a replacement helm or if I can rebuild the helm. The cable and motor check out fine (for ease of turning). I have isolated the problem down to the helm. The steering is very stiff even when the cable isn't connected to the helm. The steering has tilt and uses a single cable. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Steering Helm

You may want to contact the boat manufacturer for the specifications. The manufacturers of the system are most likely to be Teleflex or one of the subsidiaries. To narrow your search, go to the Teleflex website and look at the types of systems and match them to yours.

Iboats is a major retailer of the Teleflex systems, so you can order here.

Re: Steering Helm

if you crawl under the console, there should be making on the helm. here are the now use 2 different type of cable steering used.

the top is the rotary system, the bottom is the rack system, both by teleflex. see if the is a number, on the helm, or black sheath on the cable.

Re: Steering Helm

It is a rotary system for sure. Do I have to buy a system with a tilt feuture, since mine has tilt or can I buy a straight shaft system and connect it to my existing tilt section? BTW, thans so much for the responses.
