Steering just broke? 1998 larson w/ evinrude o/b

I have a 1998 larson br with an evinrude o/b. I was getting ready to take the boat out this morning and the steering wheel wouldn't budge. I used just a small amount of force and something popped. The steering wheel will turn left properly now, but it will not turn to the right. It just spins freely and doesn't turn the boat. Is this a problem with the helm or cable? I have no idea. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It could be either one the kit includes cable and helm for about 170.00

What type of steering setup, is it teleflex?
You can open the helm box and take a look if the rack stripped some gears or look at the other end for broken cable. Sounds like cable rotted and snapped.

sounds like what happened to me.. she snaped at the ram..

take the bolts off tha cable and if she comes out in one piece then check the other end
