Re: steering locked up

Hi Gordos..

Don't mess with it....put a new steering system in it. When they get like that, 9 out of 10 times there is no hope. For safety sake, replace the cable and/or system. The whole system in most cases can be replaced cheaper than just the cable.

Jim

gordos,

Does the engine turn freely with the steering disconnected?

If so, it's the cable-like OutboardJim said: DON"T MESS WITH IT. Replace the cable. Once they rust inside and lock up, they're dangerous.

Re: steering locked up

You state that you disconnected the cable..?? If it's the swiveltube that's binding, Keep greaseing,+ oiling,+ swiveling... you May have to get abit Forseful... It Should come free after awhile... they usaully bind at the Lower bushing.. you might try putting Oil in your greasegun.. abit messy, But a good way to "power oil" it... To pull the swiveltube apart is a Major teardown....Powerhead has to come off,Etc.... IF it frees up, your good to go.. if not, Dig out the wrenches,+ Shopmanual....
