I just installed "the rack" steering system on a V4 85 HP outboard and it takes alot of force to turn the steering wheel when going at slow speeds. I was wondering if the no feed back system would put a stop to this. Thanks

Re: Steering on a 85HP outboard

what is the sharpest angle your cable has??

I installed a teleflex rotary unit on mine and had the same problem, in my case I solved the prob by positioning the cable in such a manner as to limit or reduce the number of bends and the angle of the bends it has to have.. right angles are very bad for the life of your cable as well as making it hard to steer.

Made a huge difference..

also find the grease nipples on your motor and fillemup...

to see if its the cable or motor to blame, diconnect the cable at the motor, and see if its easy to turn then.. it should be.. if not, you have a problem with the installation. if it is really easy with next to no resistance, then you should look at the motor..

regards

Franki
