Hello All,
We are looking at purchasing a 1996 17' bowrider with a 70 merc. I water tested the other day, and the motor responed well, but there was very noticable pull to the left under power. Is this simply a trim setup issue? Or could this be a larger problem? Thanks

Re: Steering Pull to left

Pulling left is normal for a motor that is trimmed to it's limit. If you didn't have it trimmed to the max, check the zinc fin above the prop. This has an adjustment to compensate for the pulling. By some chance is the motor a counter rotating model? You should be able to tell by the left rotating propeller.

the zinc anode can be adjusted to compensate. there will be a nut hidden under a plug above it. adjust it in the direction of your pull. use small adjustments and test it out. improper weight distribution in the boat can cause this as well. in my little 14' I have to move my weight to the centre if I'm alone or it will take off to to the right.
