OK, I have double steering on my boat now and one of the cables is messed up and I am going to replace them with a single cable set-up.

How do I measure to see what size I need?
I am going to have to cut the old ones to get them out.
Can I put the new single cable through the outside tube instead of the tilt tube?

Also, are they measured at the end of the housing or with the cable all the way extended or what?

Thanks.

SBN,

The Teleflex site is as good as any. You can also look at West Marines site.

www.westmarine.com

I don't like the double to single cable idea. We want to you stick around. ;)

Re: Steering Question

OK, It has 2 racks on it.
Can I just replace the one bad cable to that rack?
Or have to replace the whole thing?
Or replace that one rack and cable?

SBN,

Sure you can. There is nothing mysterious about the double systems, they are just that. Two singles ganged together.

Re: Steering Question

I don't know, so I'll ask.
Why not just replace the cable?

Re: Steering Question

Just an update.
Found the culprit was the cable going thru tilt tube.

Was going to take that rack off but could not get the 4 bolts loose that hold it on so took cut-off grinder and cut the cable off the rack.

Steers smooth as silk now.
