Steering questions

I have a question regarding steering and steering cables. I have a single cable steering setup, I believe something may be lose or damaged. In regards to the steering wheel, are their teeth that that could be missing that causes an excessive amount of play in the wheel? It feels as if their is quite a bit of play. Any suggestions of the cause?

Could be missing teeth, worn bushings, stretched cable loose fittings etc.
