Steering replacement options

I'm looking at upgrading the steering on the V-195 this spring. The existing rack/pinion single cable system is 30 years old and has some play in it. The drive is a Mercruiser #1 with a 302 Ford at about 225hp without power steering. The current plan is to install a new Teleflex rack system. I will be going with either the 141 single cable "The Rack" or the 151 no-feedback version. I have experience with the standard 141 setup since I installed one on my outboard powered boat last year. Very smooth system.

Part of my goal is to make the 185 easier to drive so my wife can enjoy it more. Will NFB provide this? Do you lose the steering "feel" with a NFB system?

Go with the NFB system......
It's Not really a fix for a boat that needs power steering, But It'll Stop the prop torque from pulling the steering......
To a point, Yes......
But that's a Good Thing on a boat.....

Re: Steering replacement options

Power steering would be nice, but the version of power steering on this boat is a larger than average steering wheel :)

I have gotten so used to all the feedback in the steering, I drive partly by feel. It would be nice to take a cruise around the lake and not be tired from fighting the torque.
