I have raised the transom on my 14ft boat 2",the steering rod when horizontal with the transom is now 2" low.The steering rod obviously needs to be parallel
with the transom to operate it's inline travel.Has anyone fabricated a bracket to suit?
The outboard is a 1993 18hp Evuinrude.
Any drawings or pics would be very handy.

I would replace your current helm and cable with one that goes thru the tilt-tube

Two things valvebounce, first if you can bend the arm to fix your issue that would work. I understand what you are saying, and a good vice and some persuasion would solve that.

Secondly, regardless which forum you start any post in, clicking on "today's post" brings up every forum for anybody to see and read. So if you post in one forum others can easily see it from the "today's post" click. Just saying.

I would think you would need to extend the bent part of the steering arm. Maybe a bolt coupler and a threaded shaft would do it. The bolt coupler would screw onto the current arm and extend it down. The threaded shaft would join the bolt coupler and the steering rod.

Of course a picture would help a lot.

Thanks for the advice gm,the rod is 1" Dia hard steel,an extension of the heavy cable from the steering. It's not a coupling rod,it slides in and out from the side of the splashwell, parallel and level with the transom. It's travel position can't be altered. My idea was a drop down bracket from the motor to the end of the steering rod.
This will allow the steering rod to stay in it's fixed travel position but extend the pickup point downwards (60mm).
I've fabricated one that works fine.
I didn't intend to break the forum rules, thanks for the advice, this site is too good to lose.
Have a nice day.

Thanks Chris,I have managed to fabricate a vertical extension down from the motor steering pickup point to the steering bar. It's dead steady, and works great.
I've never tried putting pics up on here, perhaps I should have a go at it.

Valve, as mentioned avoid posting multiple topics or in multiple forums about the same subject.

If you think you started a topic in the wrong forum, or that you'd get more (better?) help in a different sub-forum, PM any Mod and we can move the topic for you.

I deleted the duplicate topic over in the Steering sub-forum.

IMO, the lack of replies there has more to do w when it was initially posted and when this topic was started then where they were started.

8p 5/18 for the 1st and 5a on 5/19 for this topic was probably not long enough to wait before starting a new topic expecting more replies. Plus the 1st topics title ist as informative as this topics title.

Thanks and good luck w your project. Pix nearly always help.....

...But you have to post a few pics for this one. Need to see the steering link used, the cable and steering ram, and the transom/well where it all comes together. There are many possibilities, and many solutions -- some even fairly cheap.
