I wasn't sure where this really belonged, but since they are Johnson motors I put it here.

I have a pontoon with a 1996 28hp Johnson on it currently. I have purchased a 1971 60hp Johnson as an upgrade.

The 28hp has the steering through a steering tube on the transom mount. The 60hp does not. See pics below.

Is such a set-up possibly with 60hp or am I going to have to buy a whole new steering system for the 60?

Thanks,

Gary

Re: Steering Set-up

The 60 does not have tilt pin steering, and it also has seperate mounting brackets on the transon. You will not a after market set-up.

Gary, it was hard to see if the tilt rod was hollow. It did not look like it. If the tilt rod is solid, you will need to buy a splashwell clamp(with a swivel joint) to hold the steering cable end. It is a standard piece for those OMC motors and is avail at Teleflex website and most marine stores.
