Engine is volvo penta, 7.4GL.

The drive ram has a plate that says SX-C1. I believe it was retrofited to a duo prop, but is orignally a SX.

Steering is cable with power assist.

I recently just replaced my power steering pump with a new volvo unit as we found a leak. I don't know if the new unit fixed the leak as I took it out last week and by mid day the steering was stiff again. . I added fluid into the reservoir this morning and started the engine.

From the power steering pump to the Ram, is it just 2 hoses or is there a cylinder or something in between?

i went to use the boat and the steering was frozen. I shut the engine off, removed the steering helm, and tried to manually push the outdrive. At 1st it was stuck frozen. Shut engine off, then waited 30 minutes. Tried to push the outdrive again and this time, it moved. I was able to push it to one side, but while pushing to the other side, it locked up again.

Is this something with the power assist? After that the outdrive no longer would move when pushing it with the engine off or on.

I'm really not sure.

Thanks!

Sometimes the steering tube can get damaged.
The inside has scoring and won't work?
Too much slop ? Alignment?
Is there a grease fitting on the steering actuator?

are your hoses swapped? If it is hard after starting and then after sitting for 30 mins is easy, sounds as if the pressure of the hydraulics is the cause...I have no idea, just spit-balling!?

Is it possible my mechanic swapped the hoses? One hose slips on and is clamped. the other hose goes to a connector, Z shapd . This did cross my mind, but i did run it once after it was installed so i was thinking it can't be on backwards.

The main steering helm also broke but i dont know if its 2 seperate issues or one. The helm broke because it couldnt move and i pressure it too much. Opened it up and the nut inside split in half. I will get that fixed first.

There was no slop before. I will double check if there is a grease fitting. My other boat had one but i didnt see one on this unit.
