steering under load - question from a newbe

Okay- for those not familiar with my situation- about 3 weeks ago I bought a 1994 Rinker 180 w/3.0L. While getting it all cleaned up prepped for my upcoming vacation I discovered that the gimbal ring was cracked through at the driver-side trim hinge point. After spending two weeks researching (asking tons of questions here) and waiting on parts, I've got it all back together and running again. I took it out for a quick spin this weekend to test it out before I head out on vacation later this week. Everything seemed to work as I'd hoped (it didn't sink etc :). I even got the speedo working again. I need to adjust the trim sensors as they are not reporting the trim properly right now- but I expect that's fairly easy to do.

So, my question- when running at say 20-25+ mph, maybe 60% throttle though WOT (boat tops out at 42mph- not GPS tested though) the boat will turn to the left pretty sharply if I'm not holding the wheel. Seems to track straight at lower speeds. I made sure that when I put the steering pin and arm back on that it was pointing straight forward when the drive was pointing straight. I had to adjust the steering wheel so that it was re-centered. Maybe I need to make other adjustments? Is there some sort of on-center adjustment I need to make.

Or, perhaps, is this normal ? that the boat?s motor is generating enough torque when under load that it wants to pull the drive to the side.

I?ve never owned a boat of this size so I?m still getting used to it. Thanks

Adjust the trim tab on the outdrive. It's the fin just above the prop. Loosen the bolt, turn the tab a bit and retighten.
