Re: STEERING

Fairly straight forward job.. I would replace the entire system... The cost of the complete system (new helm, cable, and hardware) is only about $10-$20 more than a replacement cable alone and many of the new parts like the helm are much improved over the old ones... Easier to install too......

Remove the old cable before you order a new one so you can measure the length for a good fit... Follow the instructions on teleflex's web site for measuring the cable length, as it's a bit trickey... Check out the Teleflex web site... It may answer most of your questions...

Pay particular attention to the Safe-t QC kit "SS137XX" and the "SS132XX" Saft-T II no feedback kit..
http://www.teleflexmorse.com/Marine/default.asp?ID=17

Re: STEERING

mike $450 is very high!! The steering head should be a Rack&pinion type. The cable is stamped dowm it's entire lenght about ever 12" find your length it will be in 6" increments, can't remember the size, but it's marked If you can't read take some chaulk or something rub on it to bring out the lettering(Teleflex brand cable most likely) Order one thru a dealer or online should be less than 100$, rack unit itself is fairly easy simple to dissemble no timing or any thing to worry about, ?will feed (pull) out the back easier most likey? getting it out of the motor will be tough, take cable lose at console first so you can pull it forward to get out of the motor, then pull it out the back(With rope attached), rope will help pull new cable into place, Sorry to be so long winded, but we put them in the deck during production, dealers had to worry about hooking them up! :(
