Re: steering

Dont think that would make a difference. You say it's hard to steer , do you mean when your underway or sitting still?

bigger and heavier motors are harder to steer. You may look into hydraulic steering (Baystar) for about $500 or so on amazon.com or ebay.

Did you check that it moves freely before connecting the cable?

Re: steering

If it's pulling one direction, adjust the trim tab trailing edge toward the direction it's pulling. A 90 HP should not be hard to steer.

Make sure you grease it regularly. There should be some zerk fittings.

Re: steering

You check the cable routing looking for bends that might be too tight? There's a potential that somebody routed it without thinking, and simply pulling it and rerouting may save you a lot of unnecessary fatigue and wear.

Re: steering

Sometimes, mounting the new motor a bit too high/low would interfere with the steering action. Make sure the rod travels along a straight path up to the tube.

I have a 24 fter and it has a 90 hp. Merc. two stroke on it. and the steering is normal when not in use, it's all greased up, but the faster I go the harder it is to turn.

Re: steering

If it's harder to turn one way than it is the other at speed, that's a trim tab issue. Otherwise?
