How much to spend on the stereo? Please keep in mind this is a low cost pleasure Pontoon, 12 YO boat and two mid 50's adults that still act like kids occasionally. Two speakers in the helm so we just want enough sounds when parked for us to hear and enjoy, we know those others around us wouldn't like our tastes... LOL.

Re: Stereo question

We found two 6x9 speakers in speaker enclosures (something easily removable) for $20 on Craigslist and are looking at a $49 marine amplifier (new) that we can plug an mp3 player into instead of a head unit with a cd player and radio that the stations never come in on anyways.

Re: Stereo question

You can definitely go inexpensive on a marine unit. It just depends on what is important to you. Do you what cd, aux/iPod, USB hookup, weatherband?? I just did a bunch of research on the same topic and went for the clarion cms1 which is a black box type unit. I got it for $167, but you can definitely go for half of that if sound quality and features are not all that important.

Re: Stereo question

We got a JCV kit from iboats that my serios radio can play through. I really like it and the sound is OK.

Re: Stereo question

I had to replace the stereo head unit recently and instead bought a Logitech powered speaker for the iPhone/iPod. The sound is amazing on this thing, plenty loud for being on the boat and I can use it on my deck at home too. About $99 from Amazon. Think the size of a small boombox but the sound is nothing like those old boxes. Joe
