Stereo stays powered on after turning off Perko's

I have a stereo wired on my boat through an electric board/panel (don't know the name, just a strip I can connect a lot of wires to). When I turn off my perko switches the stereo is still getting power for some reason. There are two power wires going from the stereo to the electric panel/strip, so I'm thinking this may have something to do with it (keeps continuous power so it doesn't lose radio presets and clock).

I don't caer if it loses the presents because I don't use them, but I just want the stereo to turn all the way off when I turn off the perko switches. I've tried disconnecting one of the two power wires and it still does this. Anybody know what I can do here? Thanks.

one of the wires goes to a hot scorce that does not turn off with the battery or key switch.

one goes to a switched hot

not sure of your color code. just try it one way and if that does not work change them.

The red wire is the main power, the yellow wire is for the memory. That's what keeps the clock showing on the head face plate when you shut off your batt switch. It draws virtually no power, but if it really bothers you, move the yellow wire from "constant hot" to switched...

Ok, thanks. When you say it draws virtually no power, what does that mean exactly. If I were to go a couple weeks or even a month without running the boat, would that be able to drain it?

Also, I'm not sure how that yellow wire is constant hot because it is wired the exact same way as the red wire to my electric strip, just one screw higher. Maybe I'll try wiring them both to the same screw and see what this does though.

Thanks for help.

Without being powered your settings will be lost from the memory and you will have to remember the frequencies of you favorite stations. It will take many weeks for the battery to be drawn down.

Your setup is somehow bypassing the battery switch. I wonder what else is remaining powered with the switch off. Usually, only the bilge pump is wired directly to the battery.

Who installed the stereo? You? An electronics shop? A previous owner? In any case, it was wired incorrectly.

It's pretty obvious that it is getting power from a source that is not switched by the battery switch. The lead for the memory circuit should receive power all the time. The lead that powers the radio should be connected to a source that is controlled by the battery switch.

If you don't know which is which, bring in someone who does.
