After a boating trip this weekend I gatherd a couple of concerns.. Firstly, do I need to do anything to protect my outdrive during the road trip. (IE transom saver. I always use one with my outboards, but never really have seen a need from one on my sterndrive).
Secoundly, what possible damage could be done by the L/U reseting on the lake floor while the boat is beached. Well not really beach . heres is what happened. the shore line was covered by rocks, so to save damage to my boats hull I tied it off a few feet from shore, and lowered the outdrive down till it was resting on the lake floor, to keep it from floating in to shore. It got kind of ruff that day so I moved the boat, in fear that the upa nd down & side to side action my be hurting the outdrive..

was I being too carefull?

thomas

edit - it's a mercuiser alpha one outdrive. also My trim fluid is milky yellow in color. I'm pretty sure that this is a sign of water in the hydros, o I plan to change oil & reseal.

boaterntexas,
I would be concerned with doing what you're doing (letting drive rest on lake bottom).
It is less likely that it will be torn off from transom. You may still encounter a problem with getting sand up your water intake. This will greately reduce life of your impeller.

Best Wishes,
Lenny
