My alarm went off on my way back in from fishing the other night. Owners manual states that it was the low gear lube warning on the outdrive. I drained and refilled the gear lube as per the manual but the engine still won't start. Is there some sort of way to re-set the system I don't know about?
Thanks,

Re: Stern drive gear lube alarm on Bravo 3 Mercruiser outdrive

Hi there, Having low gear lube with the alarm sounding should not prevent the engine from starting or running. Sounds like you may have another issue that with an MPI engine, the best way to find the problem is to have the engine scanned with an marine engine diagnostic scanner.

Have you tried opening the throttle up about 1/4 throttle to see if the engine will start while cranking? You may have a bad idle air control valve not letting enough air in to help start the engine. That would sound an alarm as well.

What engine model, year and serial number do you have?

Post serial number or at least an engine/drive year and model.

It is a 350 Mag, 2003. I don't have the serial number. I've tried starting in with the throttle slightly open. It cranks fine but will not start.

If you have a lanyard check that. Some (like mine) have a switch at the control that will disable spark but still let it turn over.

What was the alarm you heard?

Was it a beep or solid alarm sound?

Just had my spark plugs changed, impellers and fuel filters. Mechanic asked if I had been having trouble running the port engine as it was running rough for him. Suspected the fuel pump was going out. I go down and try to fire the port engine and had no luck until I gave it a little throttle. After that, engine would fire as normal and idle perfect. Only problem was that I had a warning tone every 4 to 5 seconds. All fluids were normal. I am running 2000 350 Mag MFI with Bravo 3's.

So far all I have found is that I might have a faulty gear lube sensor?? Any help on this would be great!!
Thanks.

Please start a new thread. This one is old and inactive.

The gear lube monitor will not cause starting issues.
