My manual says that the stern drive should be removed every year and the U-joints greased. Does anyone do this and how long/hard is it on a Volvo Penta Sx?

Also, there is a single grease nipple on the transom shield but the manual says that the lower unit should be removed before apply a grease gun to the nipple...???? Doesn't seem right.

It is the best possible care to remove the drive each season. You get to change the drive oil and paint it in your garage in the off season or on a rainy day.1 less thing to do in the spring rush. You cant grease the ujoints with the drive on.You also get to inspect the bellows and shift cable and even detect a leak before it is real trouble. It is also very good to get familiar with how to do these fairly simple procedures.Stick to the manual and you cant go wrong. Jimi, I have the SX too, and I believe that zerk fitting greases the gimbal bearing only. I wish everything else could be greased externally, but it's not the case. I may be removing the lower unit here soon too just to get at the ujoint and seals.
