Hi,
Okay back in the 70's I had a 20 foot Calglass cuddy cabin with a 165 mercruiser. I bought a mounting bracket for an outboard to bolt to the I/O for main engine steering. I mount a 7.5 hp Johnson on it with shift/throttle cabled to the helm in the cabin. A wonderful setup for fishing. :watermelon:
Now I am putting together a 1974 Silverline Antigua 18T with a 302 V-8 188 hp Mercruiser. I have a nice old Merc 7.5 I want to mount on the stern drive but can find nothing like it on the internet.
If anyone has one of these old mounts I would appreciate a few pictures. I can fabricate almost anything in my shop but can't remember design details. It was cantilevered in such a way that when raising the i/o the o/b still cleared the transom yet the start rope was easily reachable from inside the transom.

As a historic side note, I hit a rock in a lake at 40 MPH. The bottom of the lower unit went to the bottom of the lake as did my old Johnson. We were able to paddle back to the rock and retrieve the o/b with a long boat hook. The fuel line was snapped, the throttle and shift levers broken off. This was a remote lake in northern Manitoba, no other boaters around, and we were about 20 miles from the launch area. I fixed the fuel line and started pulling the rope. After nearly an hour in the lake that little dream engine fired up and took us home.
Now you ask why I would want another rig like that???? Nostalgia I guess, it worked perfect and it was my fault I hit the rock. :embarassed:
