Stern drive unit SX-M removal

Hi
I plan to remove the stern drive unit SX-M, from year 1999, in order to lubricate the U-joint and inspection of the Bellows. Is my first removal, by myself, so I have some doubts.
1. To remove the stern drive SX-M the unit should be in Forward or Neutral Gear?
2. In order to remove the Shift Cable is necessary to remove the pivot cube and nut (inside de drive) and also the shift cable anchor clamp screw (on the outside starboard of the drive) ?
3. And after, how is the shift cable disengaging ? Puling, unscrew ?
4. To install all, is in the reverse order?

1) doesn't matter
2) Yes to the cube. The anchor doesn't really need to be touched if you aren't also removing the pivot housing
3) Just leave the shift cable after that. The drive pulls away leaving the shift cable in place.
4) yes

You should buy a real Volvo service manual.

Buy a new oblong o-ring for the water passage before you reinstall the drive.

If you have a bad lower back, think about building or buying an outdrive stand, they are heavy enough that you can hurt yourself getting it off, or on....
The wood one I built some years back, the metal one I up-graded to this year, it works great~

I'd recommend putting some marine grease on the studs during re-install just to ensure their are no seizure issues next year.

I build a wood outdrive stand, but not so perfect as yours images shows, but he will work……
And about the 6 elastic mounting bolts nuts that securing the upper unit to the transom, it is possible to re-install again or I must throw the nuts away ???

You can reuse them.

You have a Volvo Service Manual right?

Yes, I have the Seloc manual 1992-03 Volvo Repair Manual, but for me is very important yours experience and know how
