I destroyed the gears in my drive and have found a tested used one for a decent price. The one I'm looking at is from a different size engine though. The boat it is going on is a 1984 170hp 470 4.3 so I am trying to avoid the price of the SEI which will be my other choice if I have to. The boat it is coming off of is a 1989 Glass Tron 17' with a 470 3.7. He hasn't answered if he has the gear ratio. My current gear ratio is the standard 1.84. This one will probably have the 1.98. Will this one work at all, need to replace the prop, or any other modifications.

Thanks for the help

Ayuh,... Your 4.3l will be Happy with the 470's drive... It's the Same ratio as you have...
4.3ls will run with either the 1.84:1 or the 1.65:1, depending on the hull....
It's all about getting inside the common prop range of 17" to 23"....

Re: Stern drive with different gear ratio

Thanks, for the help. Thats the first good news I've had since this happened. The boat is an 18.5 open bow. Current prop is a 21 pitch so hopefully this all works out.
