Sterndrive draining

I have just taken my boat out of the water for a few weeks and have drained all the water from the engine
(VP 4.3 GL 1997).
The problem is I am unable to loosen the sterndrive screw to get the water out of there (Cobra SX drive).
The manual says to loosen the screw with the drive in the up position and then lower it, does it make a difference, as I am damaging the screw through trying. Any thoughts on how to loosen it?

Re: Sterndrive draining

Get an impact screw driver (you hit it with a hammer) and a bit that just fits the slot.

Is there a need to bother draining if I am removing the stern and changing bellows?
Will the water simply run out when its removed?

I don't remember off the top of my head, I know there is a pocket in the pivot housing, I think it was changed in newer models so it would drain, but not sure if the older ones would or not. When you pull the drive have a look. And let us know what you find.
