Greetings,
The serial number on my older Mercruiser sterndrive isn't coming up anywhere online, therefore I'm having trouble finding the right water impeller repair kit. I believe my drive is pre-alpha 1 gen 1.
any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

What year.... what engine.... there is absolutely NOTHING in that 1st post to help us.... help you. ;) There is a good 20-years of pre alpha.

Re: Sterndrive ID help

Sorry about that, I went out and scraped a little more paint and found 5460479 on the drive. The rest of the specs:78 Century 4000, 228 305 Chevy Mercruiser 4bbl. Not sure of the sterndrive. I think it older than an Alpha 1.

Re: Sterndrive ID help

Hi Don, Thank you for confirming my suspicion about the drive. I recently read the "replacing a merc raw water pump impeller" and I'm curious to know if if a replacement "quad ring oil seal" is included with the impeller kit.

Along with the replacing the water pump is there anything else i should do while everything is apart? I plan on replacing the anode and the shift cable bellows.

Re: Sterndrive ID help

Depends on which kit you buy and who the manufacturer of the kit is. The OEM impeller kit has the quad ring, not sure about the aftermarket kits.
