I HAVE A I/O MERCRUISER.EVERY THING WAS RUNNING
GREAT AND THE PROPELLER STOPPED TURNING.
HOOKED UP EARS TO IT AND IT WILL TURN JUST A LITTLE IN FORWARD AND REVERSE. IT MAKES A CLICKING
SOUND IN THE LOWER UNIT. THE CLICKING GETS LOUDER
WHEN IT GOES INTO GEAR. WHAT DO YOU THINK???
ITS A 1973 GM 4CYL. INLINE. THE BOAT IS IN A-1
SHAPE AND THE MOTOR RUNS GREAT. SO WHAT IS WRONG
WITH THE STERN???

Re: sterndrive problem

I think you have a shift cable problem, its not putting the unit into drive. With the enine off and in neutral can you turn tne prop both ways, if so next step, motor off and the throttle in forward, can you turn the prop in both directions or hear a clicking noise? If so its propbably the shift cable. If the prop turns only one way and is free the other, try reverse too, If the prop turns only one way when in gear and turns both when in neutral its some thing else. Basically when in drive the prop should only turn one way.
