sterndrive water pump not working Alpha One

Please Help had overheating problem went to change seawater pump looked fine changed any way started up ran good but when temp went up it went from zero to 220 instantly took apart impeller burned no water put old impeller back in new pump housing and put lower end in tub of water spun shaft clockwise with drill no water coming out there is no blockage 5.0 mercruiser with alpha one impeller is spinning as it lines up with keyway when I check when I took lower end out the top o ring wsa not there or up in housing

Noticed some play in shaft also on impeller to keway

Hi, What year is it and just to be clear....Is it an older Alpha one style drive or an Alpha one Gen 2?

Being a gen 1 you cannot even see the impeller vanes spinning in the housing???????
Not knowing your mechanical lever or if you have a manual ,on a alpha 1 the copper tube is inserted into the upper housing and the plastic guide tube is inserted into the water pump housing
When assembling you insert the copper tube into the guide tube
