Sticking carburetor float?

Been boating all my life and never had a stuck carburetor float before until about 4 months ago. I have had to pull the carburetors off 3 times in the last 4 months. Today I went out and the boat was a bit hard starting. Once it started it would die every time I throttled back to put it in gear. I pulled the engine cover and gas was pouring out of the carbs. So I was wondering what are the common causes for this reoccurring problem?

Re: Sticking carburetor float?

things like electric choke (fuel bypass valve) has failed or is in the manual position (depends on year). float set incorrect when rebuilt. float has a small crack and fills with gas. cheap needles (i use cheap ones and havent had a problem). bad fuel line thats failing and little rubber bits get caught. needles dont match the seats or the slot on the seats got a little messed up with the wrong screw driver. needles are worn. on some models puting the bottom gasket in wrong way. take the carb off and attach a piece of gas line then gently blow in the gas line and turn the carb upside down. if you can blow in it then its a needle problem. others you will have to check one at a time.
model numbers will get you a better responce
