sticky steering!!

i was just wondering if anyone knew how to (or if you can even fix it!)free up my steering on my 4.45m thundercraft boat i disconnected the link at the motor end and the motor moves freely but the steering wheel is very hard to move back and forth,also how do you take the cable off of the motor.Any help would be much appreciated thanks!!

Some steering wheels will have a brake adjustment right there on the column somewhere, it's a knob that sticks out and you can increase tension or decrease the tension to reduce steering effort. I don't know anything else other than trying to lube the cable.

There is no way to lube cable, If you need to leave your back on the steering whell in each maneuver its seems that you need to change the cable. Take a look to this "post" , there is a nice video regarding the maintenance for a flex cable and a few pics. Could you tell us what steering you currently using?
