sticky trigger

After a year long transom/floor rebuild I finally got my motor reinstalled today. I reinstalled the shift and throttle cables, but when I attempted to move the throttle forward, nothing happened. The tower shaft didn't move. I disconnected the trigger from the tower shaft and now it moves. Apparently something has frozen the trigger from moving. Any ideas what may be causing the trigger to not move.

thanks in advance

Re: sticky trigger

Incorrectly installed in the wrong position, installed ****-eyed, or it is corroded. Remove the flywheel and clean the trigger and carrier then lightly grease the outside of the trigger

Yeah! If the 86 still has points and battery or magneto ignition, then the magneto carrier plate is off center and binding. He needs to remove the mounting screws and re install it.

Re: sticky trigger

OK, just to clear up some stuff up.

Prior to removing the motor for a transom rebuild, everything worked fine as I had it on the water the week before. I never removed the trigger assembly. When I removed the motor, I installed a harmonic balancer on the top of the fly wheel at a lifting point. The flywheel was never touched. My '86 had the Prestolite ignition system. So no points that I am aware of.

I'll pull the flywheel today and take your advice and clean and grease the trigger assembly.

Thanks Frank.

Re: sticky trigger

Liberally sprayed PB Blaster around my trigger assembly, let it sit for a while, lo and behold, it now moves. Not sure what got it stuck, but it works now.
