Stiff pivot action on '89 50 hp Evinrude (not steering cable or transom tube)

I have the engine hanging on a hoist without the transom mounting bracket. The pivot action is very stiff. Since I am just learning boat engine terminology I think it is the "swivel bracket" that is not moving as freely as it should.

What is the correct procedure for disassembly? I have an Evinrude Service manual but have yet to find info on this area. Since I have the engine off the boat to replace a defective steering cable I figured this was a good time to address the stiff pivoting problem.

Any tips certainly appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry you have to remove the powerhead and lower unit before you can take the swivel bracket apart.

I dont think it has a friction screw. I thought about trying to heat up the swivel bracket and then inject new grease while still warm. Really dont want to pull powerhead and lower unit unless absolutely necessary.
