I have started working on my "Stiff Steering" project. As suggested to me here on this forum I have disconnected the "Tiller" by removing the cotter pin and pin from the end of the steering cable. The stern drive has freed up considerably. I have to say just getting the cotter pin out was aufull. It's in a very bad place. But finally it and the pin were removed.
Tommorow I am going to try to tap the end of the cable loose from the tube it's stuck in after loosning up the big nut in front of the tube. Very tight quarters.. Thanks to all for the fix. Seems to be a common problem. I'll try to get some photos tommorow

Re: Stiff Steering problem "Project"

I returned to my steering problem today and removed the cable from the tube. Not so easy, had to undo the rack to get some slack and was able to free the cable. I discovered that the tube was not coroaded as suspected. The problem for me turn out to be the rack end of my cable is coroaded and semi frozen.
So a new cable has been ordered from Iboats. At this point I'm waiting for it and will advise whe installed. Regards to all

Re: Stiff Steering problem "Project"

My cable arrived today and I was able to install it. I ordered the complete steering package that included the "Back Mount Rack" not just the cable so the whole thing is 100% new.
After putting the ear muff's to her I started it up to engauge the power steering and tested the steering. Before replacing the steering cable kit I had to use two hands to turn the wheel. Now it can be turned in both directions with just a couple of fingers. All done. Next item on my list is to finish repairing the floor. About a 24x30" area. The good news is that the stringers are ok. The area was right above the gas tank. Funny but there are no drains in the floor just the ski locker area?? Thanks for listening
