Still getting a nasty noise from one of the pushrods on my Mercruiser 165HP IL6

I did a non-running adjustment on all rocker arms and I still get this nasty noise ... I believe it comes from the forward-most piston.
This is a distinct, sharp noise... not a dull, thunking sound and it comes from the top/front of the engine (not down deep in the engine). I feel certain it is one of the two front pushrods but do not want to tighten too far????????
My big concern is over-tightening. If I over-tighten 1/2 a turn will that cause real damage?
Also, how can I determine which pushrod is noisey? It is not possible with the engine running?
Thanks,
skiph

I Think we've already gone thru this,
But,
Do the Running adjustment............

IF it doesn't quiet down then,
You've got a Collapsed lifter..... It'll need Replacing......

From your previous posts,
I don't think you're getting then Tight Enough......

I would do the Running adjustment but am told I need the "sequence".... which I never got???
Also, I cannot quite hear which pushrod is making the noise even though the sound is coming from the top.
I pulled the two front pushrods and they look fine.
Thanks,
Skip

Should be no sequence for a running adjustment, just loosen one until you here it "clacking" then tighten until "clacking" is gone, then turn an additional 1/2(?) turn. Can't remember how far to turn beyond "clacking" silence. Somebody else will chime in I'm sure.

DougV>

3/4s to a Full Turn.......
1/4 turn, let it clear, another 1/4, Etc.....

Just Start at the Front.......

You Need the "Sequence", Only when doing the Static Adjustment you Just Did.........

This is a Chevy,
With Hydrualic Lifters.....
They're Adjusted to a Range........
Not to a Thousandth.........

They're, in Essence, Self-Adjusting........
You just have to Pre-Load them........
