22' 84 bayliner aq125a... boat wont go over 3000 rpms, it's not even enough power to plane. just did a tune up. plugs, wires cap/rotor. last year i put new coil, starter. my friend just told me to put a condenser also. could a condenser create loss of power? what else could i check? or trouble shoot? temp is good and runs/revs to over 4000 in the slip.

Re: still need help..rpm loss

the bottom has been painted every year exept this year and it sat in the water all winter.. just had it pulled for the prop and the bottom really is not bad.. some slime, soft growth.. i understand i might lose a couple knots but rpm loss too? were talking almost 2000 rpms. tommorrow night i'll mess with the fuel system. i have no idea where to start or what to do. is there a fuel filter? i also had just under a 1/2 a tanke of gas sit over the winter (25 gal). maybe fuel quality?

check timing and advance, volts at + side of coil, alternator charging, exhaust restrictions. my engine has a fuel filter in the carb and one at the pump.

Like Bondo said, Condenser only prevents arcing of the points..Really plays no part in overall performance unless it allowed the points to burn and the contact set is not making good connection for coil build up time.

I would also go toward Fuel ? what kind of Carbs ? is it Backfiring or coughing at all ?

It doesn't take very Much, to Overload the motor.......
Especially when you start with such an Anemic motor to begin with.......
