still no reverse on 1997 90hp

I replaced the shift cable on my outboard. With new cable it hard to get into foward and won't go into reverse at all. I don't want to break new cable. Disconnected cable and it will not shift into reverse.

Did you try spinning the prop when you tried to manually put it into gear, alot of the clutchdogs have 2 ears and they need to be lined up with the gear to go in.

Have you checked lower oil recently, if not do it now if you did what did it look like?

I tried spinning prop, used a screwdriver shifted into foward, but can't get into reverse. The foot oil was a little milky, but no metal shavings. Changed foot oil. This a saltwwater use motor could there be corrosion on the shift linkage at the foot?

Your seals are bad on your lower unit and you have an o-ring on your shift shaft that is keeping you from reverse. Are you handy with a wrench?

Did it shift before you replaced the cable? Does it shift with the cable disconnected? Time to figure out where the issue lies...
