I have a 1990 90 horse force that I finally got all the little gremlins worked out of it and running good finally other then out on the water I can not get over 4200 rpm and the engine is running very smooth. I noticed that when moving into gear it goes right into gear but you move the throttle to about 3/4 before it starts to engage the throttle linkage on the carbs. Is this maybe a adjustment issue? Me and my brother also after having it at full throttle he reached over and moved the linkage and it went to the 5000-5500 rpm with no problem as well. This is my first boat so any help would me much appreciated thank

There is a video and a sticky at the top of the forum that will explain it all

Re: not reaching full throttle

checked everything in the post and it is all good after doing this I did check another thing and just sitting in the yard not running I gave it full throttle and checked the cam and the butterflies it is not throwing to full throttle is there a way to adjust the throttle cable to get more throw on the throttle lever? BTW thanks Frank great post easy to follow:)

I don't know if this is the right way to do this but I was bored so went back out and off set the line on the cam and the roller so they where way off and then I was able to move the throttle lever to full and get the butterfly to open fully. I don't know could it maybe be a bad cable or something at the throttle lever itself? I did readjust it back to the line lining up with the roller on the cam.

found my problem yesterday. It was the stop on the lever that goes up to where you adjust your timeing. the idle screw was adjust way to far in and was hitting the stop so it wouldn't come close to letting the butterfly's open fully so adjusted it out retimed and readjust the throttle cable and boom it is opening all the way now:D
