still only 40 seconds???

Still trying to trouble shoot a problem with the boat only running for about 40 seconds and shutting down. I replaced the oil sending switch and the boat ran fine. After shut down after a few hours quits again.. I think the alt. is erratic supplying the power to the fuel pump after start??? The alt. is also getting very hot. I am going to bench check it I guess. Any more ideas?

Check it with a testlight instead of guessing and you can be sure. You mightve moved a wire thats shorting out when you thought it was fixed. Seems like a fuse should pop if there was a short. Follow the hot wire to the short if possible. I find shorts like that by sparks, smoke , and fire..lol.

Cleaned ALL connections in the engine compartment and the boat is running fine now...

Does the 5.0 have a electric fuel pump, I thought it was mechanical. Is the engine EFI or carbureted?

electric, that oil sending switch can sure cause havoc in these engines...
