I have 485 with Alpha 1 drive, I want to fit a block anode to bottom of the gimbal housing, but it has been pointed out to me that i need to replace the existing hydraulic hose mounting block that is bolted to the bottom of the gimbal housing, because the std one that is on there does not have any fixing holes for the anode, just the four outlets for the trim cylinder hoses and only 2 holes to fix it to the gimbal housing,
has anyone done this modification? how do the trim hoses get their feed through the block? will there be hoses on the back when i undo it? or am i going to get a gusher with oil everywhere? joyet noel!

Ayuh,...

There are Lots of ways to an Anodes,....
But,...
The path you've chosen is the Worst....
The Big Block from an Alpha1, Gen.II is Not an easy refit....

Are you having a Serious Issue with the anodes disappearing or What,..??
If So,...
It would be Easier to find the Source of the issue,+ Fix it...

More info please.Fill out the profile.Salt or fresh water makes a difference.
If you want to install an anode and you can't retro fit any others, get a block anode and drill a hole thru it then drill and tap a spot on the lower gimbal housing .Before you install it sand the spot you want it to fit into then make sure the zink fits tight against the housing.Jerry

Ok, so it does not have to be exactly in the middle, as long as i have good zinc to aluminium contact it will work? in that case i could fit a small one on each side? instead of struggling to remove the hose block? and use stainless steel bolts to fit?

Re: Still with the Anodes

A small one on each side or a big one grounded to the motor.Go to a marina and check out the larger inboard boats. The zink plate is thru hull and grounded to the motors and the running gear. Also notice that all the stuff hanging in the water will have a zink.
You still haven't said if you were in salt or fresh water.Do you leave the boat in the water or trailer it.Trailereds boats won't need the protection that boat left in the water need.Boats in fresh don't need the protection that boats in salt water need.Jerry

Re: Still with the Anodes

My boat is in salt water for six months, and then out for winter, most boats in and around here are shaft, there are few stern drives to compare, last season the salt water trashed the trim cylinders in 4 months, luckily the drive itself only lost its paint which is why i want to fit the apropriate amount of anodes this time round, what sort of cable do i use to ground the block to the engine?Billy
