I have a stingray 185 Volvo 3.0 GLP-e. When I first take off from the boat ramp the boat runs fine but once I hit the first wake zone the boat will not go over 2,000 RPM. I an assuming the boat is getting hot. I pulled out the impeller and I had 4 fins broke on the impeller. Could this be causing my problem? Does the engine have a protection mode that it gets in if it gets hot? Please help

welcome aboard

change your impeller (should be done every 2 years in salt, every 5 years in fresh water)

did you find the missing pieces? if not, back flush until you do. the missing pieces will also cause an overheat

Yes, I found the missing pieces once I back flushed. New impeller comes in tomorrow, will let you know how it does. Thank you!

Okay I changed the impeller and thermostat out. Did a overall maintenance by changing spark plugs, plug wires, cleaning distributor cap, adding a fuel filer/water separator, changed fuel filter in pump canister and added deadpan to fuel. Boat is still running the first few minutes ok then it will not go over 2000 RPM. When I first get in the water my WOT is at 4000 RPM but I can only run like that for a few minutes. Back fires some when opening throttle around 1500 RPM. Any ideas on what is going on? 3.0 GL Volvo w penta drive. 19 pitch prop.

That could be a clogged anti siphon valve on the gas tank, or other fuel system problems.
