I have a 2000 200LX which has a sun deck over the engine compartment. Well this weekend the screws pulled out of one side where the hinge attaches to the deck and they are loose on the other as well. The wood is obviously rotten right where the hinge is (or was) attached. These are the only soft spots I can find. Everything around them, and the rest of the deck seem pretty solid. I am looking to do a patch job to hold me until the offseason when I can replace the whole deck. Thinking I may mount some kind of metal sheet at these two corners and attatch the hinges to them. Just can't figure out what I could use. Any ideas?????

Peel the upholstery and foam back from the rotted areas.
Cut the rotted wood out and make sure you're into solid wood.
Scab in a piece of ply the same thickness with gorilla glue and clamp until cured. This will be just as strong as the original plywood. You can also glue a 1/8" piece of starboard over the entire patch but it's not necessary. Gorilla glue (marine) is ungodly strong.
Replace foam and upholstery with SS staples.

just replace the whole thing. Its not that big of a job. use the old plywood as a pattern. you'll never have to worry about it again. It will take just as much time to patch it.

Yea, looking at the options, it looks like it may be easier to go ahead and replace the whole thing.

Generally, that's what I would have recommended, but you started your thread with trying to patch it with a piece of sheetmetal.

Yea, I was originally thinking a patch would be a faster, easy fix, but in weighing the options, I think it is going to be easier to just replace it. Thanks for your input though. By the way, I didn't know they had marine gorilla glue. Good to know. Thanks again!!

While I'm on a roll, I'll assume I should use marine grade plywood instead of treated????

yep and if you want to overkill it so it will last forever wrap it with a thin layer of glass.... if not then consider what i do.... use whatever leftover house paint you have and paint the wood with several coats before covering it
