I recently posted a topic asking about rebuilding a factory prop, but I see that I can buy a new one from the Iboats market for about $130. However, I don't know what size is stock, so I don't know what step up I should/could take.
Re: Stock prop size for a 1988 Force 50 hp outbaord?
There isn't truely a stock prop.Prop selection is based on the application.
Type boat, typical use/load.Unless your prop is destroyed you should be able to get it repaired for a lot less than new.Run it and base your prop selection on the max speed and rpm at wot(wide open throttle)and present prop demensions.Keep the repaired prop for a spare. Before starting down the new prop road you should be sure your motor setup is right and the motor is in well tuned sound condition.Use 1/4" sticks and raise the motor about 1/4 inch at a time until just before venting becomes a problem.Be sure it pumps water and the clamps have a good grip.If you can gain an inch you could get 2 to 3 mph without any other change.Once you have it set you might get even more speed and height with that prop selection.
