Putting an old boat together using parts hanging around. Installed a bilge pump today that I dont know where it came from. It is a ZURN-CROWELL, made in ERIE PA. Has 2 wires coming from it, RED and YELLOW. Took some jumpers wire and went to a battery to establish polarity. Suprise, it runs in the same direction regardless of polarity. Pretty substantial pump for a 16 ft. boat but the price is right. Question is, shouldnt the thing run backwards if I reverse the polarity?
Searched the web looking for ZURN/ CROWELL, looks like they never existed. . regards FRED

Re: strange bilge pump

have u looked at attwood???

1975 - 1978

In 1975, Attwood purchased the Leisure Products Division of Zurn Industries in Erie, Pennsylvania. This gave the company a successful line of over 100 marine and recreational accessories including many plastic products and the ?Crowell? bilge pump. While Attwood had been a major supplier of boat hardware, the addition of Zurn Leisure Products made Attwood a major factor in the after market, allowing Attwood to enter the recreational vehicle field with a broad product line for the first time. The following year, the company erected another 67,000 square feet of warehousing space and added a sophisticated computerized picking system, which cut the time to process an order to a few hours.

Re: strange bilge pump

Thankyou for the information. Thought it might be real old when I saw it was made in ERIE PA. Any idea why it runs in the same direction regardless of polarity ? FRED
