I have just come across the strangest outboard that I have ever seen. I do not know how to post pictures on this site so I will direct you if I can.
The website has a strange title
http:/foredkow.b2bquote.com
note no www
When the site loads, look on the left hand column and click on outboard motors. check out the third motor down from the top.
This appears to be a chinese boat and motor outlet, maybe this is the way of the future

Look-up "Contraption" in the dictionary and you just might see a picture of it. :D

China at its finest. But for working the rice paddies or what not, its the thing. Did you also see the outboard they make? Controls and all. Looks like a older Johnson. Click here China and navigate the site a bit. Look at all the other stuff your grandchildren will be using, while we regulate ourselves into some black hole of stupidity. Think not for a second that this isn't the future...look at Kia, supposed junk a few years back, now GM and Ford losing millions, and Delphi going belly up with no parts to sell too. This should be in the basement DC, so I'll quit before JB comes after me.

Yet in it's own weird way, the design makes sense...

I can remember when the first Japanese outboards started to appear on the scene, the American companies laughed and didn't really do any development, the Japs overtook them.

Maybe this is why Merc have set up a huge plant in China, they wont get caught napping the second time

Re: Strange"outboard"

Very clever name for a company:

Foredkow = Ford Cow?

I think that 12/18/20 hp outboard isn't an outboard: looks like it sits inside the boat with the drive shaft hung over the stern and tiller steering.

I see they have 7 different models of "luxurious yachts," just right for us rich honky boaters...

Re: Strange"outboard"

With that big flywheel, large diameter prop, air cooling and delicate "lower unit" that thing is designed to squeeze as much forward motion as possible out of a gallon of gasoline. Doesn't look to be built for speed. Probably use it to push those big wooden trading "junks" around, or displacement hulled fishing boats. We'd all be using something different if a gallon of gas was a half-day's wages. My Bigtwin probably burns as much gas in two hours as that thing uses in eight. Sure does look primative though, doesn't it.
