Stratos setup

I have a 89 Stratos 279 fs 17.5 ft long. Im running a 88 yam prov 150 on a 6in jackplate, motor has been raised 4 inches. Prop is a yamaha pro series 23p 14.5 diameter. Boat runs great and has a awsome holeshot. With the motor trimed all the way down boat will run 45mph (gps) and turns about 4000rpm. About halway trimed up it will run 64 turning 5000 rpm. the problem im havin at 64 the boat rocks back and forth even on smooth water. Also im not sure of the max rpm for that motor, thinking its about 5400? Would be nice to be able to keep the boat steady at 64 if possible. Hitting the water this weekend so i can try anything.

You can go higher on the rpm with that motor. The prop style and set up has everything to do with chine walk. Set up includes steering with slop in it. Especially hydraulic steering. And driving skill. Typical chine walk on a pad bottom hull indicates that the motor could possibly go higher.

If you're looking for strickly top speed then you'll want to look at something like the Turbo Lightning. If you want drivability and about the same top speed you might consider the Turbo Ultima 4. If you get to where you're close to 70 you might consider the Turbo SQX (4 blade TXP).

Not really lookin for a top speed only boat just wanting to get what performance i can for what i have. I watched a few videos on chine walk and looks exactly like what i encounter. My pro v is a 88 model and i cant find wat the max rpm is. My water pressure stays around 30 now, when raising the motor where do i need to be concerned with pressure goin to low. From what i can tell seat time will help me more than anything, but any othe advice would be great.

Generally speaking you'll probably want to start by raising the motor a little (1/2") at a time on the plate and test. As it gets higher it should get better. That motor will turn 5700-5800 with no issues. Just make sure the steering is up to the task. The more slop you have the harder it will be to drive. If you have hydraulic you may not get the slack out. If you have duel cable you can adjust the slack out.

All the steering was replaced this year from the wheel all the way back its a dual cable setup seems to have no slack at all. This boat is a blast to drive and seems fast for what it is. My yamaha seems to run perfect and makes great power. Im lookin foward to learning it and seeing what this boat can do, 70ish would be awsome, thanks for all the advice, im sure ill have more questions soon.
