STRESS CRACKS NEW BOAT

I BOUGHT A SEA FOX 205 IN APRIL 2003 , IN JULY FOUND CRACKS IN GEL COAT AROUND TRANSOM, BAIT WELL, CORNERS OF BOAT, AND ANCHOR WELL. BOAT HAS 17 HOURS RIVER ONLY USE. SHOULD I EXCEPT REPAIRS, AND WHAT KIND OF GUARANTEE COULD THEY PROVIDE THAT IT IS NOT STRUCTURAL VS NORMAL GEL COAT CRACKS? 1ST BOAT OWNED AND MISERABLE.

You need to read your warranty very carefully and maybe even have it examined by an attorney. It is very difficult from hare to give you any advice since we cannot see or examine what you call gel coat cracks. Some crazing is normal for gel coat in areas subject to stress. Crazing looks like spider webs and is usually cosmetic in nature.<br /><br />By the way - welcome and come join with us. Be a good idea in future posts not to use all caps as that is considered shouting and is a bit hard to read.

Though boats do get stress cracks which is not out of the ordinary,I have seen pretty old boats with none.Your boat is too new to have as many as you describe.something sounds wrong.Charlie

My sea ray warrenty reads "non-structural gelcoat cracks are not covered" however the cracks can inicate structural problems which may be covered.<br /><br />read my dad's sylvan warrnty gelcoat cracks are not covered. again if they come from the structure being defective....<br /><br />my 2c I am not an expert. Or a lawyer.

Your best bet is to lean (HARD) on the dealer who sold you the boat to fix the problem areas... <br /><br />Then sell it fast and buy something else. Boats don't lose value as fast as cars so you might not lose much in the way of $ and will be way ahead in piece of mind.<br /><br />just my thoughts
