I am finally ready to start. I have a 17'6 glastron. I have removed the cap, transom, and down to hull. I have purchased 1/2 inch ACX ply and 5/4 pt for the stringers, and 3/4 ply for transom. I have cut my stringers and transom and they are drying. Decking is drying flat on garage floor.
So my plan is to epoxy all the wood with 3-4 coats. I plan to use Pl poly to bed stringers and transom . I then plan to use epoxy and 1708 strips to tab the stringers and transom to hull. I will fill gaps between hull and deck with pl poly also. Can I add strength to the ply in critical areas on the underside using the 1708 and epoxy? I will then paint the deck with some paint ? I need recommendations there. Also how do you secure deck to stringers and seal the holes in the stringer? I've lost my password or i"d post new pix Sure i forgot something .http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/projectThumbs,p,478,00.html

double the deck back side if mounting pedistal seats. attaching deck drill you hole, a little shot of PL in the hole screw. clean up immediately, that touch up poly over the deck.

So does my overall plan of using epoxy to seal wood and using same epoxy with the 1708 strips to secure to hull is acceptable for a 5-10 yr lifespan. As for the seats I saw a post with bases routed and glued to top of deck that looks good to me leaving out that durabek paint or whatever it was he used.

On the 5 to 10 year question.

You can possibly get that amount of time by doing nothing to the wood, by just keeping it dry when not in use and with no carpet over it 5 years isn't a problem, 10 years may be about the limit though. Just coating it with epoxy will add some life to it, but epoxy alone isn't a great way to extend the life, glass is needed to ensure it stays watertight long term.

The main reason for rot is water getting in through unsealed screw holes or other penetrations, it make no difference which resin is used, or if any resin is used at all, if water can reach the wood it will rot.
