Stringer and foam area

Hi,
As I move forward in my project (V156 Glastron) I am at the point where I'm putting in the deck supports. My confusion is with the area that holds the foam. Is that area suppose to be sealed up 100% from water. What I am concerned about is there is a drain hole in the bow under the deck that drains any water that may get in under the seats or the anchor storage area. This water just drains into that foam area down the center of the hull and into the bilge. Should I run a PVC tube from that hole to the bilge to keep the drain water from getting into that foamed area of just keep the foam out of the center of the hull and foam from the first set of outer stringer up to the wall? All the foam was removed by the previous owner and it apperars to have had foam there once before, but I can't be sure.:confused:

Re: Stringer and foam area

hey glasstron......good questions...

there are two schools of thought on that subject of encasing a foam chamber.

#1....seal it.....seal it all for good...

#2 .....leave a drain so any water can get out....

if you use this method.....you must block off the water channels when you pour the foam....as the foam will expand into the water channels and you will have no drain......

pros and cons.......

if you use method one....any water that gets in the area cannot get out....this includes condensation.

if you use method #2....water can get in to your foam....but it can also drain.....

read john's pick of work so far

john sealed his chambers and did a pvc drain

hope i didnt confuse you
